A new         book by Dr. Michael Holick attacks the conventional wisdom that sun         exposure can have detrimental and sometimes fatal consequences.  His         book, entitled, The UV Advantage, offers a different approach to         sun exposure and suggests that regular moderate exposure to UV light is         the key to healthy living.  Dr. Holick, Professor of Medicine,         Physiology and Biophysics at Boston University Medical Center, argues         that a lack of UV radiation leads to the body’s depletion of Vitamin D.          This depletion can lead to diseases such as osteoporosis, hypertension,         diabetes and cancer of the colon, prostate and breast.

Dr.         Holick Comments on New Recommendations from the Australian and New         Zealand

Dr. Holick agrees that moderate           doses of ultraviolet exposure is essential for good health.            Approximately 10-15 minutes of uv light from the sun or a tanning bed           on the arms, face and legs will help increase levels of vitamin D,           thereby reducing one’s risk of such diseases such as osteoporosis,           diabetes, hypertesnion and cancers of the colon, prostate and breast.            I agree that…
