A new book by Dr. Michael Holick attacks the conventional wisdom that sun exposure can have detrimental and sometimes fatal consequences.  His book, entitled, The UV Advantage, offers a different approach to sun exposure and suggests that regular moderate exposure to UV light is the key to healthy living.  Dr. Holick, Professor of Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics at Boston University Medical Center, argues that a lack of UV radiation leads to the body’s depletion of Vitamin D.  This depletion can lead to diseases such as osteoporosis, hypertension, diabetes and cancer of the colon, prostate and breast.
