A Note
from our Principal (A PIE Night re-cap)…
One of the most important changes in education
this decade is the realization that early
identification and intervention can prevent
reading problems for many students. New
screening assessments make early intervention
possible, because schools are able to identify
students who are at risk for, or who are
experiencing reading difficulties. Schools can
then provide intervention instruction
immediately after the student is identified,
and with early intervention, many students
avoid major reading difficulties later in
school.
RTI (Response to Intervention) is the
framework the primary division is using to
make instructional decisions based on data,
and to plan instruction to accelerate learning
for all students. This framework requires us
to have three essential practices in place:
• A systemic process of screening students,
• Procedures to provide data-informed, differentiated
instruction, and
• Monitoring to ensure students are making progress.
The only way to know whether learning is
taking place is to measure it. Thus, the
primary division has implemented the STAR
assessment to measure specific skills based on
the Common Core Standards.
The research finding about the effectiveness
of RTI is extensive. It is clear that a system
of assessing students, adjusting instruction
based on data, and monitoring progress will
benefit children. Using the data from
assessments, teachers can differentiate their
instruction to meet the needs of all students
and teach strategically. RTI has given our
teachers a structure to accelerate learning
for all.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Klein

Freshman Class
Help Wanted!
Volunteer shifts are still available for
winter concessions! The freshman class is
responsible for staffing concessions at the
high school for junior varsity and varsity
basketball games (girls and boys) and home
wrestling matches. The money we raise from
concessions will help fund future class
expenses (like junior prom).
Shift times start in early December and end
in February. There are weeknight and weekend
opportunities...something for everyone! At
least two adults are needed per shift. Some
shifts list three adults: These are CHL
rivals or big games and require more
staffing. Please note students will be
working also. Student volunteers will be
coordinated through freshman student
council.
Please click
here to review the volunteer shifts
still available and to sign up. If you
currently do not have an account with Sign
Up Genius, you will need to create one to
confirm your volunteer shift. The system
will prompt you, and the process is easy.
All adults—parents and grandparents—are
welcome to participate! Please feel free to
sign up for more than one shift if your
schedule permits. Thank you in advance for
your help. If you have any questions
regarding concessions volunteering, please
contact us.

Major
retailers want to give our school money!
We’re pleased to share some exciting news
about a new fundraising program for our
organization. It’s called “scrip”, and it’s
the fundraising program that works while you
shop. Scrip-participating retailers agree to
sell gift certificates to our organization
at a discount. Member families like yours
buy the certificates for full face value,
they redeem them for full face value, and
our school keeps the difference as revenue.
Please click
here for more information or to
order.
Please
support the Wyoming PSA's Non-Event. Nothing
could be easier than this stay-at-home
method of supporting your Wyoming schools!
